Background:

Bruce Smith has been a national presenter for the Woodcock-Johnson® (1977, 1989, and 2001 editions) since 1981 and is also a presenter for the Scales of Independent Behavior-Revised. His graduate and post-graduate experiences include internships in assessment from Illinois State University, Chicago and University or Iowa’s Hospital Clinic in Iowa City. He has taught graduate level courses in assessment and inclusive education in Illinois and Iowa and introductory classes in learning disabilities. The emphasis of these courses has been on the educational implications of test results on academic performance and intervention selection. He has provided numerous in-services/workshops for the Regional Offices of Education and local school districts on the following topics: educational and intervention selection, behavior management, attention deficit disorders, and traumatic brain injury.

Over the course of his work experience he has functioned in the following capacities: Coordinator of a residential, preadolescent clinical unit and Special Education Teacher for severely emotionally disturbed/socially maladjusted students at Chicago State Hospital; Behavior Disorder Coordinator for the West Suburban Special Education Association; Director and Evaluator of the Learning Center for the Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities; Educational Consultant/Coordinator/Evaluator for Diagnostic Clinic Services for the Black Hawk Area Special Education District in East Moline, Illinois; Evaluator for individuals with ADHD and/or specific learning disorders at Psychology Associates, Davenport, Iowa; Clinical Reading Specialist/Supervisor at Illinois State University; and Coordinator or Special Education Services, Henry-Clark County Special Education District and Silvis Education District #34 in Illinois.

Currently, he is a private educational consultant and evaluator for public and private schools.
