Instructions for Downloading and Installing the Report Writer for the WJ III, Version 1.1 Update

NOTE: To install the Version 1.1 update, you must have Report Writer for the WJ III, Version 1.0 installed on your computer.

Step-by-step instructions for downloading and installing the Report Writer for the WJ III, Version 1.1 update are provided below. Before proceeding, please print and read these instructions. Then select the appropriate link for your operating system to download the installation file and install the Version 1.1 update on your computer.

If you've printed these instructions, and you need to return to the Report Writer Download page, follow these steps:

  1. Open a web browser (Netscape®, Internet Explorer®, etc.)
  2. Go to www.woodcock-johnson.com
  3. Click Download Report Writer V1.1 located in the News box at the top right corner of your screen

You will then be at the Report Writer Download page.

Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME

Use the following steps to download and install the Version 1.1 update. Complete this procedure only one time.

Downloading the Update File

  1. To download the update file for use on a computer running Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME, right-click here.
  2. Choose either Save Target As (for Internet Explorer®) or Save Link As (for Netscape®) to download the update.
  3. When the Save As dialog box appears, select the Desktop icon and then click Save. The WJRWupd.exe file will download onto the Desktop.
  4. When the file is finished downloading, close your web browser.
Opening the Update File
  1. When you are ready to install the Report Writer for the WJ III, Version 1.1 update, quit all Windows programs that are currently running, including any virus protection programs.
  2. Double-click the WJRWupd.exe icon. The WinZip Self-Extractor window will open.
  3. Click Setup. The installation will start automatically.
Installing the Update File
  1. In the Welcome window, click Next.
  2. In the Software License Agreement window, click Yes.
  3. When the Choose Destination Location window appears, you must select the location where the original Report Writer for the WJ III program was installed.

    If the original program was installed in the default location, C:\Program Files\Riverside Publishing\Report Writer for the WJ III folder, click Next.

    If the original program was installed in another folder, click Browse. When the Choose Folder dialog box appears, select that folder and click OK. Then click Next.

  4. In the Select Program Folder window, click Next if you installed the program in the default location (Riverside Publishing\Report Writer). If the original program was installed in another location, type the folder name and click Next.
  5. In the Setup Complete window, click OK.
To verify that the program has been updated, start Report Writer for the WJ III and choose Help > About Report Writer for the WJ III 1.1. The first two lines in the About box will display "Report Writer for the WJ III 1.1", and the title bar at the top of the program window will display "Report Writer for the WJ III 1.1".

Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP

Use the following steps to download and install the Version 1.1 update. Complete this procedure only one time.

If you are using Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP, you must have administrator privileges. Log on to Windows as an administrator or as a user with administrator privileges before proceeding with downloading and installing the update.

Downloading the Update File

  1. To download the update file for use on a computer running Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP, right-click here.
  2. Choose either Save Target As (for Internet Explorer) or Save Link As (for Netscape) to download the update.
  3. When the Save As dialog box appears, select the Desktop icon and then click Save. The WJRWupd.zip file will download onto the Desktop.
  4. When the file is finished downloading, close your web browser.

Extracting the Update File

NOTE: To extract the compressed update installer, you must have WinZip®, a compression utility, installed on your computer. If you do not have WinZip currently installed, download an evaluation version and install it before proceeding.

  1. When you are ready to install the Report Writer for the WJ III, Version 1.1 update, quit all Windows programs that are currently running, including any virus protection programs.
  2. Double-click the WJRWupd.zip icon. The WinZip window will appear.
  3. Double-click the Setup.exe file in the WinZip window.
  4. In the WinZip Install dialog box, click OK. The installation will start automatically.

Installing the Update File

  1. In the Welcome window, click Next.
  2. In the Software License Agreement window, click Yes.
  3. When the Choose Destination Location window appears, you must select the location where the original Report Writer for the WJ III program was installed.

    If the original program was installed in the default location, C:\Program Files\Riverside Publishing\Report Writer for the WJ III folder, click Next.

    If the original program was installed in another folder, click Browse. When the Choose Folder dialog box appears, select that folder and click OK. Then click Next.

  4. In the Select Program Folder window, click Next if you installed the program in the default location (Riverside Publishing\Report Writer). If the original program was installed in another location, type the folder name and click Next.
  5. In the Setup Complete window, click OK.

To verify that the program has been updated, start Report Writer for the WJ III and choose Help > About Report Writer for the WJ III 1.1. The first two lines in the About box will display "Report Writer for the WJ III 1.1", and the title bar at the top of the program window will display "Report Writer for the WJ III 1.1".

Macintosh

Use the following steps to download and install the Version 1.1 update. Complete this procedure only one time.

Downloading the Update File

  1. When you are ready to install the Report Writer for the WJ III, Version 1.1 update, quit all virus protection programs that are currently running.
  2. To download the update file for a Macintosh computer, click here.
  3. Save the "ReportWriterInstall.sit" file to your desktop.
  4. When the download is complete, the files should automatically extract and the Report Writer Install icon will appear on the desktop.

NOTE: If the Report Writer Install icon does not appear on the desktop, use Stuffit Expander™ (available as a free download from Aladdin Systems) or another extraction utility to extract the Report Writer Install files.

Installing the Update File

  1. Double-click the Report Writer Install icon to start the installation program.
  2. In the License Agreement window, click Continue.
  3. When the Report Writer Install window appears, you must select the location where the original Report Writer for the WJ III program was installed.

    If the original program is installed in the default location, Macintosh HD > Riverside Publishing > Report Writer for the WJ III folder, click Install.

    If the original program was installed in another folder, click Select Folder. When the directory dialog box appears, locate the folder that contains the Riverside Publishing folder and select it. For example, if you installed the original program in the Macintosh HD > Applications > Riverside Publishing > Report Writer for the WJ III folder, locate and highlight the Applications folder icon and click Select. When you have selected the correct installation folder, click the Install button to run the installation.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. A message will indicate when the software has been successfully updated. Click Quit to close the installer.

To verify that the program has been updated, start Report Writer for the WJ III and choose Apple menu > About Report Writer for the WJ III 1.1. The About box will display "Report Writer for the WJ III Version1.1".
